Nala turned ONE last month and to celebrate we did ALL of her favorite things on her birthday
and I made her these Dog Pupcakes with Applesauce and Cheddar as her birthday cake!
I think it was the best day she has ever had in her whole year on this earth and she couldn’t
get enough of these Dog Pupcakes. We went on a walk, went to the dog park, and I made
her these bad babies. As I was making them she was watching me like she knew they were for her.
“Give me some Mom!!”
This recipe comes from Pinterest and I loved the ingredients in it. These Dog Pupcakes are not
gluten free but they use whole wheat flour which could be substituted for gluten free flour.
They’re savory and made with non sweetened applesauce, oats, shredded
cheddar, whole wheat flour, eggs, honey, baking powder, and veggie oil.

Nala literally salivated over these and she loved them so much!
To be honest, these were so easy to whip together, bake and even the cheddar browned
in the oven to give a caramel appearance. The texture of these Dog Pupcakes was
more muffin like than actual cupcakes but Nala didn’t seem to mind either way!
For Nala’s first birthday we bought her a few toys, rawhides, her favorite
treats, and a dog bone cookie cutter for the next time I bake her cookies.
Instead of going all out and spending tons of money on her just for her birthday
we waited and bought her all her regular stuff at once, we’re such good parents.
She totally was entranced by her Dog Pupcakes and we could tell she
thought they were super tasty. More salivation was experienced here.
We broke up each one and gave her about a third at a time to limit her eating a whole pupcake.
These also freeze beautifully and are perfect to defrost and use as treats.
- 1 1/2 CUPS WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR
- 1/4 CUP OATS
- 1/2 CUP APPLESAUCE, UNSWEETENED
- 1/4 CUP VEGGIE OIL
- 1 CUP CHEDDAR, SHREDDED
- 2 EGGS
- 2 TABLESPOONS HONEY
- 1 TEASPOON BAKING POWDER
- - HEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES
- - LINE A CUPCAKE BAKING SHEET WITH CUPCAKE LINERS, SPRAY WITH COOKING SPRAY
- - MIX THE DRY INGREDIENTS TOGETHER: FLOUR, OATS, AND BAKING POWDER IN A LARGE BOWL
- -ADD IN THE APPLESAUCE, VEGGIE OIL, CHEDDAR, EGGS, AND HONEY UNTIL COMBINED
- -SPOON BATTER INTO 12 CUPCAKE LINERS AND BAKE FOR 18-20 MINUTES
